Radio Liberty reporter Sisak Gabrielyan attacked on Armenia election day

1981

Radio Liberty reporter, Sisak Gabrielyan, noticed that voters, before entering polling stations, walked into the office of ruling Republican Party candidate Hakob Beglaryan’s office in the Kond district of Yerevan. He saw that some of the voters came out of the office with bills in their hands. Gabrielyan decided to enter Beglaryan’s office himself.

Realizing that Gabrielyan is a reporter, the office staff assured him that those are salaries, not bribes. Shortly after, a group of people physically attacked the reporter, took his phone, and gave him a minor eye injury.

Armenia’s Prosector General’s Office announced on its website that the case of the attack on Radio Liberty’s reporter has been sent to the relevant department of the Police Forces, who will carry out a proper criminal procedure.
