A new book by Masis Mayilian “The Karabakh Peace Process: A View from Artsakh” has been released by “De-facto” publishing in Yerevan. Mayilyan is the Chairman of the Artsakh Public Council for Foreign and Security Policy and was until 2007 Deputy Foreign Minister of NKR. The book was reviewed and recommended for publication by the Academic Council of the Artsakh State University.
The book presents the dynamic of development of the Azerbaijani-Karabakh conflict and transformation of its parameters along the entire period of the confrontation. The book reviews the peace process from 2008 to 2015 and offersacriticalanalysisoftheapproachesofinternationalmediatorstotheconflictsettlement, gives recommendations for the way out of the impasse in the talks and creation of conditions for a stable and secure development of the region.
In his foreword to the book, Moscow-based diplomat and journalist Arsen Melik-Shahnazarov notes that the materials collected in the book are a unique encyclopedia for professionals dealing with the negotiations process or attentively following its development.
The book also includes a collection of research papers, covering key issues of the Nagorno-Karabakh settlement, as well as comparative analyses necessary for a better understanding of the situation, related to Artsakh.
In his review of the book, deputy head of the Caucasus Institute Sergey Minasyan, PhD noted that Mayilian’s work is valuable from scientific and analytical points of view. Additionally, its practical value is the recommendations and proposals offered by the author that can strengthen and broaden the positions of Armenian parties in the peace process, making it possible to present a realistic picture of the Karabakh conflict to the international community, and particularly to the mediators of the peace process.
Gegham Baghdassaryan, editor-in-chief of the Stepanakert-based “Analyticon” journal and member of the Artsakh Public Council for Foreign and Security Policy is confident that Masis Mayilian’s extensive participation in the official negotiations and his engagement in international research initiatives have helped develop new approaches to tackling key problems of the settlement of the conflict and offer them to the public, the government and international actors.
“The Karabakh Peace Process: A View from Artsakh” is available in Russian and is intended for politicians, diplomats, experts in conflict studies, military and political affairs, NGO activists, as well as all those interested in the modern history and problems of the South Caucasus.
